Tipworthy Tuesday: Wreath Making

Have you started decorating for Autumn, yet? Well, I can tell you that I certainly have. I’m a little obsessed with the changing of seasons, even though I live in sunny south Florida (AKA the land of the year long summer).

Pretty much every year, I make a fall wreath. This year, it began with my friend Naomi and this:

A pile o’ STUFF.

So I stuck some greenery here, flowers there, wrapped a letter and BAM. It was done…

NOT! It truly took forever to make, and this happens to me every year. Maybe it’s my indesicive-ness. Or maybe, I should have come up with these tips a long time ago.

The purpose of this post is to share some shortcuts to happy wreath making. I hope you find these tips helpful in your home entertaining, and if you make a wreath, please share it with us (and any applicable parties, of course)!

Decide Before You Buy- Deciding “the look” you want is imperative prior to buying any supplies. You will save money and time this way.

Matchy Matchy = Happy- I chose natural fibers and neutral colors because it complimented my weathered & rustic front door. Don’t fight your house! If your exterior is modern looking, go for clean lines and bold colors. The overall look will be better.

Prep, Prep, Prep- As my dear, sweet friend Naomi and I were wracking our brains trying to decide how we wanted our wreaths to look (while our husbands were on my couch watching Back to the Future- true story), we realized how nice it would have been to have done some prep ahead of time. Made some fabric flowers. Had stuff ready to go. PREPARE, people! You’ll thank me.

Skip the Hot Glue- If you’re using a branch-style wreath like I did, then you can easily stick in your stems and accessories without adhesive. This saves so much time!

Hello, Dollar Store-  Last, but not least, for the budget concious (and who isn’t these days?). Did you know that you can buy craft supplies, flowers and more at your local dollar store? Yes, it’s true! Give it a try.

Happy wreath making!
